On Sunday, December 11, 2016, the Mostarun 5K and 10K Race was held for the first time to benefit the Movicancer Foundation’s early detection program. Every year in Nicaragua about 5,549 new cases of cancer are diagnosed. According to PAHO/WHO data, prostate cancer represents 18% of all cancers registered in the country. That is why Movicancer together with Farándula Runners and with the support of Don Otto de la Rocha, developed the Campaign: “Look at me, so it doesn’t happen to you”.
“10 years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and here I am with the message that we must lose fear of Cancer and think about our health. Men in particular must lose their fear of the prostate exam because doing it does not make you less of a man,” said Don Otto de la Rocha, renowned Nicaraguan singer-songwriter.
The purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness in men about the risks of developing this type of cancer and the opportunities to reduce them through taking control of their health based on Scientific, Clear and, above all, Simple information. The practical message of this race was that by making small changes in our lifestyle, such as walking and exercising, we can reduce this risk. To this end, Educational Posters and Flyers have been developed and are being distributed through the health sector and local partners of the foundation, as well as a video on the subject that can be downloaded from the Movicáncer page and social networks.
The race had as its starting point, the central parking lot of Plaza Eclipse, where more than 600 people participated. It was notorious that entire families, children, adolescents and the elderly (men and women) participated in this race where all were winners and received different prizes and royalties from different companies that actively participated as sponsors.
