As part of the strengthening of the registration, surveillance and follow-up strategy through Sivipcan®, the Nicaraguan Ministry of Health has held a national workshop on March 7, 2014 with all the computer scientists and engineers that MINSA has at level of all health regions of the republic. There were 45 delegates from 19 health regions or commonly known as SILAIS (Local Comprehensive Health Care Systems).
Sivipcan® is a powerful Software developed by Nicaraguan talent that constitutes a virtual surveillance system for CCU precursor injuries that allows managing information from users of the Public Health System (nominal registry) and promotes data analysis for planning and management. monitoring of indicators of structure, processes and results from Primary Health Care (PHC).
This action establishes an important step towards strengthening the National Program for the Control of Cancer in Women because the entire country is already using this virtual platform that allows us to only ensure medical care for women affected by the disease (precursor lesions of Cancer, Cancer In Situ and Cancer Invasor), but also allows the continuous monitoring of the national program in order to evaluate the impact of the different strategies used by MINSA for the screening of cancer precursor lesions.
It should be noted that Sivipcan® has received recognition as “Latin Excellence” by the American Cancer Society in 2008 and three years later (2011) it has been ranked among the three (3) best innovations in America in the category of Science and Technology by Innovators of America based in the Dominican Republic; That same year he received recognition for the “Development of Public Health in Nicaragua” by the Nicaraguan Association of Public Health (ANSAP). In 2013, it received the special mention for Innovation by the Regional Fund for Digital Innovation in Latin America and the Caribbean (FRIDA). And recently the Nicaraguan Council for Science and Technology (CONICYT) has recognized him for his contribution to the National Plan for Human Development (2012-2016).
Although we have advanced together with MINSA at accelerated steps to stop the heavy burden that Cervical Cancer (CCU) and Breast Cancer represent in our country; We still have a long way to go in order to consolidate what has been achieved until we achieve a status in Nicaragua of zero tolerance for these two types of cancer.
