Fundación Movicancer

Committed to a Nicaragua with less cancer

In 2011, the Movicáncer-Nicaragua Foundation completed more than three years of having been created by academics and professionals in the field of public health and oncology committed to a Nicaragua with less cancer. What results have been obtained in these three years? “Fulfilling our Mission has required an extraordinary effort to position and maintain, even with the economic limitations of these times.” Mr. Benito Martínez Granera pointed out. “The different volunteers who have supported us throughout these years have made a difference,” he pointed out.

During these three years, three more important agreements have been signed with Public and Private entities. We have established collaborations with 16 organizations and private companies, some of them, Scientific Institutions, Diplomatic Missions, Agencies of the United Nations System, Foundations and Associations, among other NGOs” said Dr. Juan Almendarez Peralta, General Director of Movicáncer.

We have expanded the coverage of the Surveillance System for the Prevention of Cancer (Sivipcan®) to three SILAIS (Local Comprehensive Health Care System), thus supporting the strengthening of the Cancer component of the Ministry of Health-MINSA both at the central level and in its branches. health regions. About 89 professionals from these health regions have received training through the course “Management of the Women’s Cancer Control Program” an intensive program of 40 academic hours.

Since the end of last year, we have designed and developed an informative and educational campaign called “Let’s Speak Clearly about Women’s Cancer”, in order to demystify cervical and breast cancer, thus reaching thousands of women from all social strata. social.

Because we know we can improve what we do. We have set out to listen to the concerns of the public and health professionals across the country. For this reason, we have located ourselves in cyberspace and through social networks such as Twitter and Facebook in order to reach a larger audience; But in addition, we have had the support of the mass media such as La Prensa, el Nuevo Diario, national and international magazines; but we have also made better use of the power of the radio and television media in order to make the importance of prevention and early diagnosis of Cancer reach the collective consciousness.

But above all, through the “Road to Recovery” initiative, we have touched the lives of many women and children for “good” who, without our work, the battle against their disease [cancer] would have been harder and with fewer opportunities. to beat her. In such a way that thanks to the funds donated by some institutions, many women with cervical and breast cancer, and children with hemato-oncological diseases from areas far from the capital, have been able to start, continue or finish their treatment. This initiative is a complementary work to the efforts made by the Ministry of Health to provide curative medical care and in some cases palliative care to the population that needs it.

For its work and Latin American leadership in the development of information technologies for Cancer Control, Movicáncer has been awarded three international awards, including from the American Cancer Society and Innovators of America® and recently the Public Health Association (ANSAP) , has recognized his contribution to the development of Nicaraguan public health.

Even with everything, there is still a lot to do, we have some challenges and our story is just beginning.

From Movicáncer we want to thank the support we have received from people and institutions that have identified with our mission over these three years.
