The recognition “Hope for Life®” is granted to all those natural or legal persons, who, beyond their duty, contribute in an exceptional way to make Nicaragua a country with less cancer.
This event brings together personalities from business, political, medical and academic world of Nicaragua, all with a single goal: to take on commitment to unite efforts against cancer to be taken into account in the country’s political agenda as it is: a problem of public health.
Movicancer joins efforts of medical community working in partnership to beat the disease.
Recognitions “Hope for Life” are given to all those personalities or institutions that, beyond their duty, have given to a Nicaragua with less cancer. These recognitions do not focus on cancer, but on those people who side by side are relieving pain and contributing with various actions in the fight against cancer.
FFoundation Movicancer grants the recognition “Hope for Life®” to those people and institutions that, beyond their duty, have contributed in an exceptional way in the fight against cancer. Our goal is promoting and recognize actions, allowing us to achieve mission and organizational objectives.
To select the winners, Movicancer recognizes the following categories:
All those people and institutions which contribute to the fight against cancer generating new knowledge and strengthening programs development, initiative and strategies, among others. This recognition will be granted by plaque or trophy.
Movicancer gives this recognition to those people who contribute with actions, volunteering, through social awareness, strengthening education, patient support, among others. This recognition will be granted to volunteers through parchment.
All those people and institutions which contribute to the fight against cancer through technological initiatives in order to manage new knowledge, strengthen and promote new care models, or improve programs and strategies, among others. The recognition granted will be through plaque or trophy.
The recognitions delivery date will be through a ceremony coinciding with the “World Cancer Day”, February 4th of each year.
In the category “Voluntary Work”
Students José María Rodríguez and María Teresa Suárez who collaborated together with Foundation Movicancer in the software development called: SIVIPCAN (Surveillance System for Cancer Prevention).
In the category “Social Commitment”:
Medical Aid for Central America (AMCA), which since 1980s has implemented and strengthened a sponsorship program for children with cancer who cared for in Children’s Manuel de Jesús Rivera Hospital “pet”.
Dra. Ofelia Rojas Barrios (Pathologist) for 40 years at service of his fellows. Leading cancer researcher. She has promoted university projection, dedicating herself to offering and bringing women the PAP Test as a way to detect pre-cancerous lesions early.
The Twinning Association Nünberg-San Carlos was also deserving this recognition for developing psychological support for women with cancer and children with hemato-oncology diseases.
In the category “Scientific and Research Development”:
Faculty of Sciences, Technology and Environment of Central American University (UCA), who since 2009 have collaborated in the monitoring and follow-up system development for women cancer prevention (SIVIPCAN).
In the category “Voluntary Work”:
The sisters of the Congregational Friendship Missionaries of Christ the Worker (AMICO), were awarded for their support to children with cancer and blood diseases are cared in Children’s Hospital Manuel de Jesús Rivera “Pet”.
In the category “Social Commitment”:
Dr. Fulgencio Báez Lacayo who for 48 years has been at Nicaraguans Service, first as a physician and surgeon, then as a specialist in pediatric oncology, was awarded.
In the category “Scientific and Research Development”:
Dr. Reina Palacios González for his 31 years of dedication to research and teaching.
Dr. Oscar Danilo Fonseca for 49 years of dedication to oncological medicine and teaching in Nicaragua. Dr. Fonseca, introduced innovative techniques in oncological surgery.
