Movicancer receives “Alianza Latina Edition 2017” Award

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 2017. Within the framework of the 12th Forum of the Latin Alliance, which brought together representatives of 95 non-governmental organizations from 18 countries of the Latin American region, the award ceremony was held for those organizations that have contributed to the “Use of data for a better understanding of the causes and improvement of medical assistance”

This year, Fundación Movicancer has received this recognition for the creation and implementation of SIVIPCAN® within the framework of the “Strengthening of the Registration and Surveillance System for the Management of the Cervical Cancer Control Program in LATAM”. The main objective of this recognition is to help strengthen the work carried out by various organizations in the region that strive every day to improve the quality of life of patients.

Sivipcan® has been developed and implemented at the level of the Nicaraguan republic, helping to save lives against Cervical Cancer, a cancer that with good planning and care measures can be identified in time and treated in affected women before they present symptoms. of the illness.

The Alianza Latina jury awarded this recognition considering the impact and social relevance, as well as the coverage, innovation, methodology and replicability of the initiative developed by Movicancer.

Likewise, during the days that the “Workshop” lasted in Rio de Janeiro, the participants exchanged information and shared experiences on relevant topics, such as: Mobilization of resources, expanding the voice of the patient, role of the role of social networks in the mission scope, advocacy, and the importance of data for clinical research and development in Latin America.

Mr. José María Rodríguez, Head of Technological Development, was the one who received the award on behalf of the Movicancer Foundation.

About the project and its progress

“At Movicancer we have developed a specialized platform for a Cancer Prevention Surveillance System, better known as SIVIPCAN®. This system was so successful that the Ministry of Health decided to adopt it as part of the strategy of cervical and breast cancer control programs throughout the country, achieving continuous improvement in the care and follow-up of positive cases,” said Eng. Rodriguez-Loaisiga, who also added: “Our goal is to identify affected women before their lesion evolves into cancer. All these improvements have been linked to a process of training doctors and nurses who are in charge of registering and monitoring women in order to ensure that they complete their treatment,” he pointed out.

Nicaragua has been the only country in the Central American region that has made positive progress in the development of this platform that has been recognized by various international institutions and that have valued its progress in this matter. More recently, a plan has been designed to make a generic version of SIVIPCAN® so that other countries could also adopt it in their health and information systems. “We know that this is a very ambitious project because it must be perfectly understood how each country works so that the system is complementary and enhances the efforts of each country in the effective control of a cancer that can be eradicated in the Americas” expressed Mr. Benito Martinez-Granera, Vice President of Movicancer programs.

Movicancer has been making various arrangements with the Guatemalan Ministry of Health in order to transfer this valuable technology and the first visits have already been made to present the project and make an agreement with that sister country for the development of the system in its generic version.
